International Drivers Permit
DO I NEED AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVING PERMIT (IDP) ?
This question is the most asked when we go to any travel show. From all our personal experience we follow what most of the European Motoring associations recommend.
Many European countries accept an Australian driver's license; however, most countries will require an International Driving Permit.
The International Driving Permit (also referred as a IDP) are accepted worldwide (in over 150 countries) as a recognisable form of identification and are officially sanctioned by the United Nations. It is a translation of your Australian driver's license in 11 foreign languages.and must be carried with your domestic driver's licence at all times.
IDPs can be purchased from your local motoring organisation (RACV, NRMA, etc) by presenting your current drivers’ licence and a passport-sized photo. The International Driving Permit is valid for 1 years from date of issue and costs around $39 (2015 price). IDP's are usually issued on the spot or you can apply by post.
