MELBOURNE:
CityLink is a toll road expressway that links Melbourne's three major freeways: the West Gate, the Monash and the Tullamarine. The West Gate Freeway is the western gateway to regions including the Great Ocean Road; the Monash Freeway is the south-eastern gateway to Phillip Island, Gippsland and Lakes and Wilderness; and the Tullamarine Freeway is the northern gateway to the airport and the Goldfields.
People using CityLink don't need to stop to pay for their travel as this is all done electronically via overhead gantries that record your licence plate number and travel details. If you're visiting Melbourne and planning on using CityLink, all you need to do is purchase a CityLink Pass. Make sure you do this before you travel or within 3 days of travelling as fines apply. CityLink has three passes that are available for infrequent users and those visiting Melbourne:
A 24 Hour Pass, costing $10.50, provides unlimited travel on CityLink for 24 hours from the time you first drive on CityLink.
A Weekend Pass, costing $10.50, allows you to travel from noon on Friday until midnight on Sunday.
The Tulla Pass, costing $3.75, is available for travel between Bulla Road and Flemington Roads on the Tullamarine Freeway.
And, if you find yourself on CityLink and haven't got a pass, you can purchase a 24 Hour Pass or Tulla Pass until midnight three days after you travelled on CityLink. So, if you travel on CityLink after midday Friday, you have until midnight Tuesday to purchase a pass.
Purchasing a CityLink Pass is simple - you can visit CityLink's website www.citylink.com.au call Customer Service on 13 26 29, visit an Australia Post office or use a Touch machine at Melbourne Airport and major Shell petrol station outlet in Victoria.

The London Congestion Charging Scheme:
The Congestion Charge is an £8 daily charge for driving or parking a vehicle on public roads within the Congestion
Charging zone between 7:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, excluding weekends and public holidays and between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day inclusive. Payment of the charge (Including Rental / Hire Cars) allows you to drive around, leave and re-enter the zone as many times as required in one day.
You will know when you are about to cross the boundary into the charging zone because you will see the ‘C’ sign, shown top right, at the side of the road. There are no tollbooths, barriers or tickets; instead you are paying to register your vehicle registration number on a database. Cameras will read your number plate as you enter or drive within the charging zone and check it against the database of those who have paid the charge or those who are exempt or registered for 100% discount. Once the vehicle registration number has been matched, showing that you have paid you are fully wiped off the database.
Payment can be made via the TFL call centre, via the web www.cclondon.com , in retail outlets offering the PayPoint service or in post offices. The charge can be paid at any time up to 10pm on the day of entry into the zone.
The areas where the charge is applicable are highlighted on this Map

ALAMO:
Congestion Charge is applicable in Central London. Marble Arch and London Bayswater are the only Alamo locations that fall into the Central London zone. If the customer picks up a car from Marble Arch between Monday to Friday (07.00-18.00) inclusive, Alamo will offer to add the first day's Congestion Charge fee to the rental agreement for their convenience. The customer will then be responsible for paying the daily charge for all subsequent days (Saturday, Sunday and public holidays are exempt). For a customer picking up a car from Marble Arch on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday no Congestion Charge fee will be added to the rental agreement for that first day. They will then be responsible for paying the fee for all subsequent chargeable days (excluding Saturday, Sunday and public holidays).
HERTZ:
Marble Arch, Victoria & Russell Square are now all located within the zone. However Hertz pays the first congestion charge for customers renting from these locations. Subsequent entries into the zone are the renters responsibility.
EUROPCAR:
Edgware Road, London Victoria & London Notting Hill are within the Zone
Hire cars are not exempt from the charge and it is the responsibility of the renter and not Europcar to register the vehicle they are driving by paying the charge each day they travel within the zone.
Europe
There are toll roads throughout Europe and the way they "work" varies. In most countries you pay as you exit the toll road - with the piece of paper obtained when entering the toll road telling the toll booth where you entered.
Switzerland charges a fee for the use of motorways (green road signs). The vignette, which is a sticker applied to inside of the windscreen, costs a flat-rate price and is mandatory for motor vehicles. Vignettes can be purchased at customs offices at most border entries. also obtainable at post offices, petrol stations, automobile associations and railway stations. They are valid from 1 December until 31 January of the year after the following year.
